CARIBBEAN
The Caribbean is accessible for all
I try to find a few photos to add with this report on Caribbean destinations that are different. But I can't find any. There's the white beach, the turqoise blue waters, the leafy palm tree, the pretty yellow budgy. Its what the Caribbean is. Simply paradise. Even when a storm threatens, the colours of the sky are stunning.
Its usually where you'll find the likes of world leaders, celebrities, footballers. Unfortunately, its not an option for many. The Caribbean is considered a 'special place' for only 'special people', the creme-de-la creme of society. The ones with lots of green to splash out. And indeed, a fortnight in the Caribbean can cost you more than a salary or two! But, there are alternatives for us mere mortals. Its a matter of looking, and you'll find some great deals.
Cocos, in Antigua is our first option. You can find accommodation at the smaller hotels for €100 per night. And its not a roadside B&B i'm talking about. Your room includes a classic four-poster bed (i love them!) and an outdoor shower overlooking the fabulous beach. The hotel also features a spa and a swimming pool. But who needs a hotel pool when you can go snorkelling in Cades reef, a short ferry ride away?
In Barbados, the option of activities are very impresssive. You can snorkel, hike on the tropical forests, play golf or tennis, or simply lie on a beach and watch the world go by. Check out Shoestring Barbados where you can normally find quaity and affordable accommodation.
Grenada & Tobago are a bird-watchers' paradise. It is also where you'll find fantastic opportunities other than just drenching your body in sun-rays. For example, Tobago offers the Adventure Eco Villas, an organic farm spanned across 12 acres of a nature reserve, where you can find a double room for about €100 per night. Visit Beyond the Beaches for more information.
The most expensive part of your Caribbean vacation is your flight. From Europe, you can find direct flights to Trinidad, Barbados or Antigua, but you can expect to pay well over €500 on any major airline. There are of course cheaper alternatives - its a matter of doing your research! And the web is the best place for you to look. Try Travelocity for the best deals on offer.
