GERMANY WORLD CUP 2006
Nuremberg
Since its beginnings in the mid 11th century, the city has been growing, first into a great trade centre, and cultural hub, where many artists flourished, such as Adam Kraft, Veit Stoss, and Peter Vischer. Its place in history was tarnished though by Hitler, who chose the city as the centre for his Nazi party, most notorious events being his speeches at the Zeppelin stadium. As a result, Nuremberg suffered one of the most spectacular attacks from allied forces during WWII.
Today, however, a lot of its medieval heritage still stands proudly. The Imperial Castle, a number of Gothic churches and patrician houses provide a lively homage to life in medieval times. But Nuremberg is also one of the liveliest cities in Bavaria, providing visitors with many cafes, bars and restaurants.
